How we rank results
Why one marble comes before another in your results, in plain words.
Last updated 10 October 2026
Organic ranking can't be bought. Sponsored results are always labelled.
There are no Sponsored results today; every result is ranked by the rules below, in order of importance. The “Verified” label and MarbleWala Partner status do not change the order.
Photo search
When you search with a photo, these decide the order, most important first:
- How closely it looks like your photo. We compare your photo with the slab photos of marble in stock: colour, veining and pattern. This counts far more than anything else. Marbles that look the same, or nearly the same, are shown first as Best matches; the rest follow as Similar looks. A slab in a clearly different colour is moved down.
- Where the marble is. If you chose a city or “Near me” before the search, we show stock in those places. You can switch to all of India in one tap.
- In stock. Marble marked in stock counts for more than limited stock, and limited stock for more than marble on order.
- Recently updated. Stock the supplier listed or updated recently counts for more. Anything the supplier hasn’t updated for 30 days is not shown.
- Real photos and complete details. Listings with real photos, sizes, thickness and finish filled in count a little more.
Search by name, colour or filters
When you type a search or use filters, these decide the order, most important first:
- How well it matches your words. The marble’s name and trade names, common misspellings and Hindi words (“safed”, “kala”), and what the marble looks like.
- Your filters and preferences. Filters you pick (colour, marble type, finish, use, thickness, city) are strict: only marbles that match are shown. Things you type, like a colour or a use, count as preferences: marbles that match them come first.
- Where the marble is. When you name a city (“white marble in Udaipur”), stock there counts for more.
- In stock. Marble marked in stock counts for more than limited stock, and limited stock for more than marble on order.
- Recently updated. Stock the supplier listed or updated recently counts for more. Anything not updated for 30 days is not shown.
- Real photos and complete details. Listings with real photos, sizes, thickness, finish and a description count a little more.
“Best match” is the order above. You can sort by “Fresh stock”, “Most stock” or “Newly listed” instead.
Rules for every search
- In “Best match” order, each further marble from the same supplier counts a little less, so one supplier can’t fill the page.
- Sold marble, and marble the supplier no longer lists, is not shown.
- Tiles never appear in marble and granite results.
- When nothing matches everything you asked for, we loosen the search one step at a time and tell you what we loosened.
Sponsored spots
There are none today. When they start, these rules apply:
- Some results may be marked “Sponsored”. They come from MarbleWala Partners, suppliers who pay MarbleWala a fee when a buyer we introduce buys from them.
- A Sponsored result appears only when it matches what you searched: the marble family, every filter you set, and your area.
- At most 2 per page, at most 1 per supplier, always in their own row and labelled.
- Never inside photo search's “Exact match” or the “Best match” list, and they never change the order of unlabelled results. Tap “Why am I seeing this?” on any Sponsored card.
How suppliers are treated differently (and how they aren't)
Every supplier can keep stock confirmed and listings complete for free, through the weekly WhatsApp check or the confirmation link. For MarbleWala Partners, our desk does this work every week, so their listings are more often fresh and complete; the ranking rules above are the same for everyone. Partners can also appear in labelled Sponsored spots.
The full list is in our seller terms. What the “Verified” label means: verification.
How MarbleWala earns
MarbleWala is free for buyers. We find which godown has your marble, check stock, and introduce you. The sale is between you and the godown. You pay the godown directly — MarbleWala never takes your money. Godowns that partner with us pay MarbleWala a fee when a sale happens through our introduction. It is never added to your bill. The godown sets the rate. If a godown quotes you more because you came through MarbleWala, tell us.
Changes
We change these rules only with a dated note here.
- 10 October 2026 · Supplier names in search. Before: a supplier's name typed into search found its listings. Now: a supplier's name is removed from the search words. Why: Buyers see suppliers only through an enquiry (supplier identity is gated)
